Learning to safely and competently crew and skipper is the pathway to being a confident sailor.  Women who participate in our ladies-exclusive courses do so for a multitude of reasons:  to more fully contribute to the sailing of their yacht with their partners; to learn with, and from, like-minded women; to understand and practice safety procedures including man overboard drills; and to gain skippering skills and experience to confidently helm their own yacht.

Join us for a weekend or 5-day sailing course to further build skills and knowledge to both crew and skipper a yacht.

Our courses progress through the RYA Start Yachting, Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper syllabus.  If new to sailing, you will learn to steer the yacht and work the sails as you sail the boat around the beautiful, sheltered waters of Moreton Bay.  The course teaches ropes & knots, how to work the sails and winches, steering and using the compass, and safety on board. Students also gain some knowledge of charts and navigational aides.  More advanced sailors learn to dock and moor the yacht, undertake passage planning, and coordinate crew onboard.

The ladies weekend and 5-day courses are held on board one of our training yachts and includes meals on board (except for one evening meal ashore on a 5-day course). The course departs from East Coast Marina and the yacht will spend the evening/s at anchor or in another harbour and you will have the opportunity to enjoy the delights of some night sailing.

Weekend sailing courses begin on Saturday morning and finish Sunday afternoon. 5-day courses commence Monday morning and finish on Friday afternoon.

We are pleased to have fully qualified male and female instructors at Southern Cross Yachting.  On our ladies-exclusive courses your female instructor will guide you through the mysteries of sailing the yacht which is comfortably fitted out for cruising to make this trip an enjoyable experience.

At the Southern Cross School of Yachting we teach sailing in the simplest and most enjoyable way possible so you will not only learn more, but you will have a great time doing it!

We were lucky enough to spend a day with Jamie on Moreton bay and can’t speak highly enough about it. Three of us with varied previous experience of sailing joined with a father and son to share in a day of learning the ropes. The day was tailored to our varied needs and at all times we were able to ask questions and glean experience from Jamie’s wealth of knowledge. We would highly recommend signing up for a course if you’re interested in getting back on the water after a hiatus. Thanks so much guys! It was a priceless day!

Whether you are a seasoned sailor or a novice, it’s well worth spending time with a calm and knowledgeable instructor from Southern Cross. Thanks Jamie
