This online course offers a basic introduction to navigation, safety and learning how to be an active member for those new to boating of any type. Entering the world of boating brings with it a whole new language and by undertaking this 12-16 hour entry-level course, you’re setting yourself the solid foundations to grasp concepts taught within various RYA practical sessions.
Course topics include; charts and publications, safety equipment & procedures, identifying buoys/markers that create the ‘road’ of the sea, tidal awareness, who gives way to who including identifying collision paths, anchoring, weather forecasts and much more. All of this will increase awareness of your surroundings and identify reasons why certain tasks are occurring when on the vessel.
Whether your goal is completing RYA Competent Crew or RYA Day Skipper, the RYA self-paced learning platform will guide you through the modules in an easy to use, thought out manner. Each module consists of a ‘Learn It’ section and, for the more complex topics, a ‘Try It’ section where you can complete some practice questions before moving on to the section test. This course is the perfect stepping stone to the more in-depth RYA Day Skipper shore-based course as well as ideal for anyone contemplating a bareboat charter holiday, anyone considering buying their own boat and for experienced dinghy, keelboat sailors and inshore racers.
