What is the Bareboat Charter Course?

The bareboat sailing course is designed to teach sailing in a simple and enjoyable way, no matter your experience on the sea. The Bareboat Charter prep is a 1-day course, but at Southern Cross Yachting, we believe a weekend is better in order to get the most out of your training! While the one day course is a great way to start learning the basics of sailing, more time is required to reach the level where one can sail solo confidently and safely. Skills taught include how-to pick-up moorings, how to plan your trip, what to expect and what to pack.

The weekend option (See RYA Start Yachting) sees sailors spending the night aboard the vessel, with meals being provided as you enjoy the peaceful serenity of nighttime sailing. Upon completion of the bareboat charter course, you will receive an Introduction to Sailing – Bareboat Charter Preparation Certificate, which is recognised by all reputable charter operators within Australia, allowing you to get out on the water aboard your own yacht sooner. This course is a must if you are planning on taking a charter holiday within Australia in the near future, as the skills gained are sure to make your holiday much more enjoyable.

We were lucky enough to spend a day with Jamie on Moreton bay and can’t speak highly enough about it. Three of us with varied previous experience of sailing joined with a father and son to share in a day of learning the ropes. The day was tailored to our varied needs and at all times we were able to ask questions and glean experience from Jamie’s wealth of knowledge. We would highly recommend signing up for a course if you’re interested in getting back on the water after a hiatus. Thanks so much guys! It was a priceless day!
