As one gets older time appears to accelerate. It only seems like a few weeks ago that we were pulling down the Xmas tree but here we are now already in June with the biggest event of Australia’s sporting calendar rushing towards us. Yes folks preparations for ‘the race that stops the nation’ are well underway not just here but with Kiwi, UK and Hong Kong based owners eyeing off the trophy, this year’s Brisbane to Keppel yacht race could be the most hotly contested ever! The signature event for the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and we are proud to boast that Oceans is the only yacht to have contested every edition of the great race. This storied BH41 ‘Maxi Chaser’ (we chase the maxis every year from about a hundred miles back) knows the podium well in this race and is a red hot special to once again get against the silverware.
The wonderful people at Keppel Bay Marina are already hard at work preparing for our arrival and who knows what surprises are in store for us. Two years ago they pulled a big one out of the hat when the Governor of Queensland turned up to hand out the pickle dishes at the presentation. I recall well the horrified look on the Commodores face when I took the microphone to accept our trophy.
And you can be a part of all this! We still have places for the race crew available and the package includes two days training the weekend prior to the event. Who knows you could be standing with us on the podium as the Mayor of Yeppoon hands us the keys to their fair city.
The race starts on Friday the 5th of August and the cost of the race package is $1650.
