RYA Start Yachting is an ‘on-the-water’ immersive, weekend course that provides a two-day, one night introduction to sail cruising for novices.  You will join the vessel at 9am on Saturday morning, partake in activities such as steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework and depart at approximately 4pm on Sunday having received an overview of what to expect from life onboard a sailing boat.  The evening is spent either at anchor or in a different port, all weather depending.  Destination is determined based on wind direction and tide.

Your eyes will be opened to the many necessary safety elements relating to rules of the road, man overboard recovery, clothing and emergency equipment and provide training on precautionary measures of safety at sea.

Conducted on board one of our approved training yachts, this course will outline the basics of sailing a yacht, whilst whetting your appetite for more!

This weekend equates to weekend 1 of the RYA Competent Crew certification.  Therefore, if you love what occurs on this weekend, all you need to do is two more weekends and you’ll achieve RYA Competent Crew.

We were lucky enough to spend a day with Jamie on Moreton bay and can’t speak highly enough about it. Three of us with varied previous experience of sailing joined with a father and son to share in a day of learning the ropes. The day was tailored to our varied needs and at all times we were able to ask questions and glean experience from Jamie’s wealth of knowledge. We would highly recommend signing up for a course if you’re interested in getting back on the water after a hiatus. Thanks so much guys! It was a priceless day!
