Welcome to this boat show edition of Southern Cross Yachting ENews.

Yes it’s that time of year again. Time for me to dust off the Hawaiian shirts, break out the brochures and banners and head on down to Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. I must admit I do look forward to the show each year as it is a great opportunity to catch up with so many of you, our loyal customers! This will be the school’s 14th year attending the show which makes us one of the longest ‘serving’ exhibitors. Oddly enough not much has changed over the years – oh yes boats and brands come and go, fellow exhibitors change and certainly some of the bars and restaurants have been renamed but over all, things remain pretty much the same at the ‘Cove’. We all still eat at the Italian most nights. The weather is nearly always spectacular. The Mariachi band are still annoying and the Jet Ski stands still have scantily clad young ladies attempting to answer customers questions about ‘horse power’. So long have we been exhibiting at the show in fact I am sure that some of these young ladies were at kindergarten when we first started.

All the usual attractions will be there. Super yachts we can’t afford, electronics we can afford but don’t need and lots and lots of boats to walk through. Power boat salesmen in chambray shirts to annoy, promotions girls to avoid and the most glorious ‘people watching’ event of the year. And of course my old friend from last year the high visibility clad ‘Chief of Security’. Most of all I am looking forward to catching up with him! So get your wallet, slip on the easily removable shoes, and head on down. The show runs from this Thursday the 24th until Sunday 27th. The show is open from 9am until 5pm each day. Our Chief Power Instructor Tim Rylance and I will be available from 1 minute past 5 each day for anyone who wants to buy us a beer. This year we will have ‘Foxy Lady’ the schools X yacht on display and it will be a great opportunity to look over one of these magnificent Danish built yachts. And any course booked and paid for at the show will receive a 10% discount, so come on down!
Stop Press! – We have just scheduled a Diesel Engine and Radio course for next week. The Diesel Engine course is held over one day and will give you the confidence to put to sea knowing you can fix the simple things that often happen to the ‘Iron Topsail’. The course starts at 9am and runs until 5pm on Friday 1 June 2012 and the Radio course is on Thursday 31 May 2012. Plenty of spaces left but get in quick as places for these courses always fill fast. I look forward to seeing you all at the show.
Cheers
Mike Job.
