Usually I use this newsletter to try and make you all laugh. Well, I think I am funny anyway, but this week I want to talk about something serious. Deadly serious. Cancer. I would doubt that there is anyone reading this who hasn’t been touched by it in some way, at some time. 1 in 2 men and 1 in every 3 women in Australia will be diagnosed with some kind of cancer by the time they are 85. Last year 126 000 new cases of the disease were diagnosed in Australia and it claimed over 43 000 lives. The good news is that 66% of people diagnosed are still alive 5 years later and thanks to research, this percentage is growing.

So it is time we all pitched in to help kick cancers arse! So the Supreme Commander of Southern Cross Yachting, Jenny Job is joining a group of friends and participating in the ‘Weekend to End Women’s Cancer’ on the 24-25th October. Jen and her team will be joining thousands of women to walk 60kms to raise awareness and money with all proceeds going to the Queensland Institute of Medical Research ‘Berghofer’ Institute. I will be part of the ‘shore team’ offering endless verbal support, as well as band aids and foot massages. Yes I know, I am so selfless. You can do your bit by either simply making a donation or booking any course though Southern Cross until the 23rd of October. We will be donating 5% of all course fees booked between now and the 23rd. So now is your chance to both help put an end to cancer and go sailing!

To make a donation or to learn more about the weekend, follow this link Donate to End Women’s Cancer

As a further incentive if Jenny and her team can raise $10 000, I will sail my laser around Green Island naked. At night. Got to watch out for that skin cancer!

So jump on the phone and help Jen and the team kick cancer’s arse!

That’s all for this edition, until next time stay healthy!

Cheers

Jenny and Mike Job
